Since starting karate with the USKO my eldest son has gained many new skills which are keeping him fit & healthy. He is far more confident now than he was, something which I have also noticed in his younger brother who also now trains.
Mr. Davies, parent.

I like karate because it's fun & helps you be strong. I used to be bullied at school but since coming to train with the USKO it has stopped.
Matthew, aged 10, student.

USKO Warriors (9-12yrs)
With childhood obesity rates at an all time high & with more & more children spending so much of their time playing video games & using the computer we at the USKO believe that it is time to turn off the television & turn on the exercise.

The USKO’s Warriors programme is designed for our older children between the ages of 9 & 12. The same theme of learning through fun is continued in this class with different games teaching skills such as teamwork & co-operation.

All our students, regardless of age, practice semi-contact (light contact) sparring, which provides an element of competitiveness. However, we emphasize that winning, although important, is not everything and that taking part and trying your best is what counts most. Likewise, all of our students are frequently reminded that the skills they learn are never to be used outside of the class except for the purpose of self-defence.

By practicing Sport Karate children learn to pay attention & focus on their tasks in hand, which also helps them in other areas such as schoolwork.

Many children’s charities such as kidscape, who help children that are being bullied, recommend martial arts as a way to improve children’s confidence. In many instances just doing a martial art will lead to such an improvement in self-confidence that the bullying will stop. However, sometimes more help is needed and our instructors will work with the student & their parents on our anti-bulling programme.

If you as a parent are worried about other aspects of your child’s development then we have a system of life skills badges which can be taken free of charge. These include focus, concentration, self-control, respect & assertiveness to name a few.
